Frequently Asked Questions What is Iron Artist? The greatest event of the summer, of course! For all you folks new to the SCRAP scene, Iron Artist is our annual FUNdraiser where 10 teams of artists compete in a timed sculpture competition. Each team receives similar reused materials provided by SCRAP, The ReBuilding Center, Portland Store Fixtures, Free Geek. A theme for the sculptures is announced when the competition begins and teams have 3 hours to complete a masterpiece which is then judged by a panel of local celebrities who then award the prestigious Cup du SCRAP. Teams are encouraged to wear costumes and the event is timed and monitored by a raucous team of referees who throw yellow flags while handing out bonus points and demerits. Who are the celebrity judges? Top Secret... What else is happening? Beer Garden sponsored by Lompoc, Food Vendors, a HUGE raffle with goods from City Bikes, Portland Center Stage, Flex Car, Portland Art Museum, pix, Naked City and so much more... What's a Tchotchki Girl and what will they be selling? Tchtochki girls are like cigarette girls on Scrap. They'll be selling handmade items such as floppy disk journals, Iron Artist bottle cap pins, and coaster sets. They'll also be the folks to see about the latest SCRAP stickers and pins (which are pretty sweet this year). They'll also be hawking raffle tickets. Is there entertainment other than the competition? Heck yeah! DJ Katie P will be providing tunes throughout the day. MCs Bootsy Mylar and Bobby Soxx will be giving the play by play commentary. And the Last Regiment of Syncopated Drummers will be providing entertainment while the judges are busy doing there thang... How much will tickets be? $5-20 sliding scale. How can I get in for FREE?? Volunteer at the event. We’ll need people to help out in every aspect of the event including: set-up, clean-up, entry, recycling, serving beer and wine (OLCC card required), id checkers, scrap info people, runners, and more. Please email Kelley with your interest and she’ll plug you in. There will also be work parties prior to the event for things such as sign making, tchotchki prep, lot cleanup and more.Kelley@scrapaction.org. What’s the most important thing? The most important thing is for YOU to be at Iron Artist. Put it down on your calendars, tell your friends. What's SCRAP's FUNdraising goal? Our goal is to raise $15,000 this year. See the details from 2005 Iron Artist. If you still aren’t convinced about how great this event is, check out the pictures from 2004 and 2005. | |
