CAMP INFORMATION/SIGN UP FOR CAMP SCRAP

ANNOUNCING CAMP SCRAP! Come join us for a week full of fun and educational art projects, activities and field trips! Campers will explore all the amazing things that can be made out of “scrap” materials, while also learning about the three R’s: REDUCE, REUSE, RECYCLE!

The mission of Camp SCRAP is to educate and inspire children about creative reuse and promote environmentally sustainable behavior by providing hands-on educational activities and creative projects in a fun and safe learning environment.

Summary of session activities!
Each day of the camp focuses on a material commonly available at SCRAP. Daily activities center around this material theme and consist of at least one art project (two if there are no field trips that day!), an hour of educational games and activities, free time (lots of project and activity ideas provided!), and a quick but educational “discussion” of how the material is produced, reused and recycled. In addition, we will go on three field trips (metro recycling center, The Community Cycling Center and The Rebuilding Center) and have at least two “visiting artists” per session who will teach the campers about their craft!

Here is a glace at what the week will look like (specifics coming soon, please check back to see details as they come up):

Monday-FIBER: Meet and Greet! SCRAPpy name games; Campers decorate their very own SCRAP t-shirt! There will be a local visiting artist and lots more neato activities.

Tuesday-PLASTIC, RUBBER & FOAM: On this day we will focus on some of the most unsustainable material there is: PLASTIC! Field trip to a recycling center to see where it’s all going! And lots of activities to show kids they don’t have to throw it in the trash! This day is co-facilitated by Leave No Plastic Behind, a local organization that encourages artists to save their plastics for 3 months, make art and display the results at one of LNPB art openings (see their website here: http://plastic.cheryllohrmann.com)

Wednesday-METAL: Today we will go on a field trip to The Community Cycling Center, learn how to disassemble bikes and make crafts out of the junk parts! There will also be projects and activities at SCRAP!

Thursday-TILE & GLASS: Today a visiting artist will teach campers how to make mosaics! Other projects include a simplified stained/painted glass project, and much more!

Friday-PAPER & WOOD: Our last day of camp will be devoted to trees! We will take a field trip to The Rebuilding Center to make a simple project. We will also be writing letter to thank the community members that support CAMP SCRAP. Lots of other projects and games too! And we’ll celebrate our last day of camp with a Pizza Party!
