| Upcoming Workshops | The mission of SCRAP's workshop program is to offer fun, affordable and eco-friendly skill-based art and crafts classes to the Portland community. We offer four workshops per month at SCRAP! Two for kids (these happen on the No School Days!) and two for adults (the 1st and 3rd Saturdays of the month). All workshops are between 1-3pm (unless otherwise noted) and none are more then $25 bucks! (Skill) = These workshop are aimed more towards older participants, meaning adults and teens. (Kids) = These workshops are for the youngsters, but parents are sure to enjoy them too! |

(Skill) Mat-Cutting Workshop Saturday, May 3. 1-3pm. Ages 16+. $15. Just in time for Mother's Day, frame your Mom up something nice! Learn to use to a mat-cutter, use scrap mat board from SCRAP, save lots of money! Stephanie, from Portland Picture Frame, teaches you how to use a mat-cutter like a professional! Workshop fee includes all materials and a "certification card" so you can use SCRAP's mat-cutter any time SCRAP is open! Bring an image you would like to frame. All skill levels welcome! |
| (Kids) Make Mother’s Day Gifts! Saturday, May 10. 11am-5pm. All Ages. $5-10 Hey Kids! Come make your Mom something SCRAPtacular for Mother's Day. And we're not talking about macaroni painting here (or if she is a big pasta fan, we'll show you how to make the coolest macaroni gift you ever did see!) The workshop room will have volunteers ready to help inspire and assist all day so come by with a project in mind or just go where the SCRAP takes you! There will also be a facilitated "skill" workshop from 1-3 (project TBA). Come join us! | |
| (Kids) Build a Robot! TWO PART CLASS: Sunday, May 11 3:30-5:30pm AND Wednesday, May 14 4-6pm. Ages 9+. $20 Learn how to make and wire a functional robot! This two-part class starts with the basics. Pheng Vang will teach children how to wire a “robot” to move independently by use of a motor found in a old VCR! Kids will build the outside of the robot out of reused materials found in the SCRAP store. This workshop is aimed towards kids, but we encourage anyone who is interested in learning about this to sign-up, its fun for all ages! | |
| (Kids) Action Figure and Comic Book Workshop No School Day! Monday, May 26. 1-3pm. Ages 7+. $15 SCRAPER MAN. THE SCRULK. Super heroes go SCRAPPY! During this workshop we will make action figures out of reused materials. Then we'll learn the basics of making a comic book by telling a story about our little guys. Take this workshop as a fun event in and of itself or look forward to our upcoming stop-motion animation workshop where we take our action figure and our story and really bring it to life. | |
| (All) Book Binding Drop-In Workshop Wednesday, May 21. 6-8pm. All ages. $5 Come learn how to make all sorts of interesting books. Sarah Morgan teaches you all the basic sewing, folding and gluing techniques! We are having this workshop in honor of our new extended hours, so stop by the shop, learn to make some books and shop until you drop (which better be 8pm because that is when we close). | |
| (Skill) Encaustic Painting Workshop Saturday, June 21. 1-3pm. 16+. $15 Come learn the timeless art of encaustic painting! Learn to melt and layer wax and images to create amazingly dimensional pieces of artwork! Get familiar with all the tools and supplies you need to explore the wild world of wax! |
Registration Information for workshops at SCRAP: All workshops take place in the workshop room at SCRAP. Payment is required for all classes upon registration. You can register over the phone using a credit card (master card or visa) or in person with cash, check or credit card. In the event that minimum participation is not reached, tuition will be fully refunded or can be applied to another class. All supplies are included unless otherwise stated. To ensure a full refund, all cancellations by students must occur 24 hours prior to the start of the class. Members and volunteers receive a 25% discount on all workshop fees! If you have an idea for a great reuse workshop, fill out a proposal form that describes the workshop, tools used, appropriate age levels, etc. The possibilities are wide, but Reuse has to be the underlying theme. Our Workshop Room is Open Whenever SCRAP is Open Come on down and work on your projects in our workshop room. We have some basic tools for you to use. Use of the space is FREE.
